Dave Cottle is finalist for Harvard men’s lacrosse job

Former Maryland men's lacrosse coach Dave Cottle has emerged as a finalist for the vacant men's lacrosse coaching job at Harvard, three sources said on Wednesday. The sources said the other finalists include Dartmouth Coach Andy Towers, Brown Coach Lars Tiffany and Notre Dame assistant Gerry Byrne. But Cottle is the front-runner, two sources said. Cottle and Harvard Athletic Director Bob Scalise worked together on the NCAA men's lacrosse tournament committee and Scalise is strongly in favor of hiring Cottle, according to both sources. A decision was expected late last week but was delayed after alumni contacted Scalise and asked him to reconsider Cottle's candidacy, according to two sources and to a copy of an e-mail from an alum sent to Scalise and the rest of the school's search committee that was obtained by a reporter. Another reason for the delay is that Cottle, a Maryland native and longtime resident,
