In an NCAA Tournament that has been defense-first, the Final Four spotlight should shine brightest on players with the greatest defensive responsibility. There's one on every team:

UT’s Earl Thomas pulls a fast one _ and a hamstring

Safety Earl Thomas wasn't going to run for the NFL scouts at UT's Pro Day.

It turns out he couldn't help himself.

"My competitiveness got to me,'' said Thomas, who ran a 4.38 in the 40. "A lot of coaches asked me, "are you going to run?' I felt like I needed to calm people down or something like that.

"When the lights come on, I perform my business. I'm glad I got to run.''

The problem: Thomas tweaked his left hamstring with the run and didn't perform any drills later in the day.

Still, he felt good about beating his 40 time at the combine. Did he know he had a sub 4.4 40 in him?

"I knew in a good day, but I wasn't expecting it,'' Thomas said. "I haven't been training for it since the combine.

"For me to do that, I'm real proud of myself.''

Short passes, deep passes and everything in between. Colt McCoy hit them all.

Colt McCoy doesn’t expect to land with Cowboys

Colt McCoy has already thrown for two teams he declines to mention. He acknowledged he will visit St. Louis and there are reports in Cleveland that he will visit the Browns.

The Cowboys? The UT star said he has no plans to visit Valley Ranch.

"They've got a quarterback,'' McCoy said.

Colt McCoy “killed it” for pro scouts

Sam Bradford is so yesterday.

Two days after the Oklahoma quarterback impressed scouts by completing 62-of-63 throws, UT's Colt McCoy threw publicly for the first time since he injured in shoulder in the national championship game.

He threw 55 passes and none touched the turf.

"I've been waiting for this day for a long time,'' McCoy said. "I wanted to throw bad at the combine. The doctors wouldn't let me throw. So I've just really been preparing for this, and I thought I went out and killed it today.

"When you go 100 percent, there's really not much you do wrong. I felt like today was really good.''

Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy watched Bradford on Monday and was present for McCoy's exhibition today. His thoughts on the two:

"I like this workout better from the fact, I thought Colt was challenged more in his workouts as far as the type of throws,'' McCarthy said. "I thought in Sam's workout, he was very accurate, but Sam's workout was very controlled. He didn't do as much movement and as many driving throws, in my opinion.

"I thought Colt's workout was more challenging. He had the more down the field, driving type throws, which personally, I always look for because I think you get more information out of those.''
