My Super Bowl Pick Makes Me Sick!
January 31, 2009 by Baltimore Sports
Filed under Calm Down That's Just My Opinion
This Super Bowl is one of the easiest to pick in years. To me, the Steelers win easy. I hate saying that. As a matter of fact, saying that makes me violently ill…..need to take a minute while I’m violently ill….alright, where was I? Oh yeah, the Steelers will win easy. Don’t get me wrong; I will be cheering for the Cardinals so hard you thought I grew up in Phoenix. Unfortunately, when you look at the upsets in Super Bowl history, they are never pulled off by teams with below average defenses and high powered offenses. The Giants and the Patriots pulled off big upset in the last 10 years and they did it with defense over explosive offenses. Teams with great off
ense and mediocre defense never beat the teams with excellent defense and an O.K. offense. It just doesn’t happen…..DAMNIT!!!!!!
The Cardinals will not be able to run against the Steelers. I don’t want to hear about the rebirth of Edgerrin James. I don’t want to hear about his fresh legs. He could have the legs of Seattle Slew…..if Seattle Slew was alive and it wouldn’t matter. So then the Steelers defense will tee off on Kurt Warner and the one dimensional Cardinals offense. Pittsburgh will blitz, blitz and then blitz. And last time I checked Warner is about as mobile as a Zamboni. That combination won’t be pretty. It’ll make “SAW” look like a Disney flick. I think the Cardinals will move the ball some and maybe even get a big play to Larry Fitzgerald or Anquan Bolden but most of the day Warner will be digging grass out of his helmet, getting helped up by his offensive lineman, having his shoulder pads put back under his jersey….you know, the stuff that you do when you’re getting the snot knocked out of you. I think the Steelers defense will force at least two turnovers.
The Steelers offense will do what it always does; muddle along doing nothing for a while and then “BOOM” Roethlisberger breaks out of the pocket and hits a receiver, running back or tight end for a big play. The Cardinals defense did step up against the run in the post-season but I think Pittsburgh will have some success running the ball against Arizona. Again, the Pittsburgh defense will do just as much as it has to.
Sure, the Cards could win. They could pressure Roethlisberger into into a couple of picks or Willie Parker could put the ball on the ground. The Cardinals offensive line could give Warner time to throw and he could pick the Steelers secondary apart. Those things could happen, do doubt. And George W. Bush could win a Rhodes Scholarship, Dennis Franz could be named “Sexiest Man Alive” by People magazine and the Jonas Brothers could win a Grammy. But it won’t happen……
Steelers 23 Cardinals 10
Now I’ve gotta go throw up violently and then buy me a Cardinals jersey.
